Dental bridges help solve the problem of missing teeth or a gap that is impacting neighbouring teeth.

They also offer an ideal practical and cosmetic solution for an attractive, natural smile.

How does a dental bridge work?

A dental bridge fills the gap left by missing teeth and is usually created by preparing the teeth on either side of the gap. An impression is taken of your teeth and a mould is created to match the bridge to your precise requirements.

Between the gap, one or more replacement false teeth are designed to match your exact requirements and blend in with the surrounding teeth. The bridge and additional teeth are bonded to the surrounding teeth using the crowns.

What are the different types of bridges?

The most common type of bridge is usually constructed with two crowns which are permanently bonded to the teeth on either side of the gap with the replacement artificial teeth in the centre.

Another option is an adhesive bridge using the teeth on either side of the gap if they are strong and healthy enough to support the bridge. An adhesive bridge is a false tooth or teeth with ‘wings’ or attachments bonded to the inner part of the supporting teeth. This type of bridge means that there would be no need to prepare the supporting teeth for crowning.

What are the benefits of a dental bridge?

  • A permanent solution for missing teeth
  • No surgery involved.
  • Increased confidence in your smile
  • Can be more comfortable than dentures
